Homework Strategy

“I like a teacher who gives you something to take home to think about besides homework.” – Lily T.

At Moorside High School we are passionate about ensuring that we enrich the lives of our students and inspire them to be the best person they can. Homework provides an additional opportunity for our teachers to develop our students beyond the classroom. Providing challenging and thought-provoking material for homework can further enhance a students’ love for the subject and develop their thinking beyond the classroom.

Homework Cycle

Homework at Moorside High School happens within a cycle. The guidance for how often students should receive homework is as follows:

Subject Frequency
Core Subject At least Weekly
Non-core Subject At least Fortnightly

Tasks

Homework can take the form of a variety of tasks in different subjects. It is expected that a varied approach to homework is taken by each subject, providing our students with a rounded approach in their studies beyond the classroom. Popular homework content may include, but is not limited to, exam style questions for revision, guided reading tasks, research tasks and online challenges or questions.

Expectations

Homework is to be given out at the start of the relevant lesson, with students expected to write the task and due date in their planners. Any worksheets that accompany the homework should also be given out at the start of each lesson.

Homework, where possible, should incorporate the use of the knowledge organiser, providing an additional layer of support to our students beyond the classroom.

Homework may be self or peer-assessed, if the style of the homework affords itself to such practice. At Moorside High School we have an expectation that all homework is completed by every student for every subject.
