Enhanced Resource Provision - SEMH

Our Resource Provision is for 21 students with Social, Emotional, Mental Health needs. Typically, these students are not able to access full-time mainstream education. We have one class combined, in Key Stage 3 and in Key Stage 4. We provide a differentiated curriculum compared to that of the mainstream school with high levels of adult support.

All students in the Resource Provision have an Educational Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and entry to the Provision is through the Local Authority via a consultation process.

Social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH)

Social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs are a type of special educational need in which young people have severe difficulties in managing their emotions and behaviour. They often show inappropriate responses and feelings to situations. This means that they have trouble building and maintaining relationships with peers and adults; they can also struggle to engage with learning and to cope in a classroom without additional strategies and interventions. Students with SEMH will often feel anxious, scared, and misunderstood.

Typical characteristics of children with SEMH can include:

Interventions

Within the Enhanced Resource Provision there are a range of interventions which may happen depending on the needs of the individual student. Interventions are either delivered as they are stated in the students’ EHCPs or due to a need that has been identified by staff working with the student. Some interventions are delivered to the whole class as all students would benefit, and the class sizes are small enough to accommodate this. For example, handwriting, typing skills, and literacy intervention.  Some interventions are more bespoke and may be delivered on a one-to-one basis by Moorside staff or external agencies.

If interventions are needed which are not carried out in the classroom, students will be withdrawn and work in small groups or 1:1 for the duration of the intervention. Advice will be sought where needed from outside professionals such as Speech and Language Therapists or Occupational Therapists as needed or additional referrals may be made.

Uniform

Within the Enhanced Resource Provision, students are required to wear the Moorside High School Uniform.

The Moorside Way

Students within the Enhanced Resource Provision are required to follow the Moorside Way.
